New Moon in Libra
Tuesday October 5, 2010

This one feels momentous. A New Moon in Libra (October 7th), between two Full Moons in Aries. It's time to define who we are in relation to each other and the world.

The Libra drive for balance is driving the show, with Saturn and Mercury, joining the luminaries (Sun-Moon). All that Libra equanimity squares death & rebirth planet Pluto and the Moon's Nodes. Your intentions are powerful now, for yourself and the whole.

I've heard the word tipping point to describe the shift in consciousness that takes hold, and starts to show up as historic change. This is one of those moments when the illumination of Libra -- with its instinct for justice and harmony - plays its role to re-set the course. The house where this New Moon at 14 degrees Libra falls gives you clues to what's up for re-balancing.

New Moon in Libra
Defining Moment

Universal Law of Balance

It's a New Moon in Libra (Exact on October 7th, at 2:44 EDT) -- a time rest, and seek council in your own Center. Libra is symbolized by the Scales, and is a cardinal sign that initiates powerfully when that inner equilibrium is found. What's conceived grows in a balanced way.

At its best, Libra has a gift for synthesizing many ideas to an optimal point, and pushing the end result aggressively out into the world. Far from being a namby pamby sign, Libra can be forceful, and effective when in the groove of balance.

Stellium in Libra

What fine energies here, with Mercury (perception), Saturn (law and order) joining the two luminaries -- Sun and Moon -- in Libra. This puts muscle into our own ability to perceive what's out of balance, unfair, unjust or just one side of the story. We're not satisfied until we've looked from all sides, and heard many views.

Saturn is exalted in Libra, and that word suggests the glory of what's possible when we move forward in balance. We're elevated by this air sign, with all things artful, stylish, even-handed, and impartial. There's trust in the air, when we know each is mindful of the other. And that we're committed -- a Saturnian phrase -- to partnership, cooperation, diplomacy.

It's a powerful time to commit to your art, or to a cause near and dear to your heart. You might speak up for peace, justice, truth, or beautification. You could intuit radical changes that re-balance you on your foundation. Keep in mind that New Moons are for visioning. There's another Full Moon in Aries on October 22nd, for total initiation of what's conceived now.

Those with planets in Libra are super activated, and other air signs (Gemini, Aquarius) could find clarity to make strong decisions. Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Capricorn) get flashes on what's possible.

The Pluto Libra generation (October 1971 to August 1984) could be especially triggered by this New Moon, to solidly envision and act on what drives them. From Cathy Lynn Pagano, "The Pluto in Libra generation will be asked to totally transform our ideals and ideas about relationships from the bottom up and from the inside out. Saturn will force you to engage in these generational shifts of consciousness by bringing these issues up in those areas of your birth chart that is affected."

Charting the Course

All the Libra planets square Pluto and the Moon Nodes, making this a moment to envision the future. Will it be one of mutual support, or dog-eat-dog? Will it be about fearing others, or meeting with the will to understand? Will it be a story of exploitation, greed, cruelty, or will it be one of re-balancing, healing, coming back from the edge? This is brand new territory for us all, and we decide with each choice we make.
