Reflection

Attachment arises out of our ability and necessity to love. All attachments are conditional love, however, rather than soul love which is unconditional. All attachments are rooted in emotions and desires. They are desires to be one with the object of attachment. In some way every attachment gives us something, but what it gives is not free. There is always a price to pay for every attachment. This might be dependency, inferiority, and many other possibilities.

Attachments are really possessions. We feel we have or possess what we are attached to. It gives us the feeling that it makes us more whole or complete in some way. What we fail to realize is that attachments possess us, and as a result our own freedom is somewhat diminished.

Detachment is therefore very empowering, even though when first practiced it might feel unloving or unfaithful. What detachment does is take us into a soul position so that we can love unconditionally. It also empowers us to be soul centred. This does not block emotions, it just shifts identity to our deeper centre from which we can more freely express ourselves without being attached.
